Backlasher

From Wiki Gonzalez

In April of 2004, Baseball Prospectus published an article by Steven Goldman entitled You Could Look It Up: Backlash about attacks on sabermetric ideas.

In Baseball Primer's ensuing thread on the article, a new user appeared calling himself "Backlasher" and vowing to achieve "Objectivity, Truth, Justice, Harmony and the exposure of charlatans."

Backlasher became a permanent fixture at BTF, de facto leader of the Union, and was at the center of nearly every BTF flamewar for the following two years (though frequently stayed out of the battles over politics). While mostly maintaining anonymity, Backlasher allowed that he was a lawyer based on Worcester, Massachusetts, and some users knew his real name.

In early 2006, Backlasher began to devote more energy to criticism of BTF administrator Jim Furtado over TOS Enforcement issues. As the summer of 2006 began, Backlasher made increasing reference to the prospect that Furtado might ban him, even though no such threat had been made. However, sometime between 6:21 PM [1] and 8:46 PM [2] on June 13, Furtado handed Backlasher a 30-day suspension for referring to the former as "Nelly", in reference to the promiscuous Canadian pop star.

The 30 day period ended on July 13, and Backlasher resumed reading the site immediately. He did not post his first post-suspension comment until the afternoon of July 18.
