Bronson Arroyo
From Wiki Gonzalez
Bronson Arroyo (born 1977) is a right-handed pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds, and so much more.
Arroyo was initially property of the Pittsburgh Pirates, but was waived in 2003 after general manager Dave Littlefield concluded he would never develop into a solid starter or reliever, and that free agent starter Jeff Suppan was a better fit for the 40-man roster. Theo Epstein, in one of his earliest moves as Boston Red Sox GM, claimed Arroyo before he could pass through waivers, and the rest is history.
Besides his solid pitching, which was a major factor in bringing a world title to Boston in 2004, Arroyo is famous for sporting unusual blond hairstyles, particularly the "white-boy cornrows" look. His trade to the Reds in March 2006 for outfielder Wily Mo Pena proved extremely unpopular with Red Sox fans: Arroyo ended up compiling a 3.29 ERA for the Reds in '06, WMP was inconsistent, and the Sox missed the postseason for the first time in 4 years.
Arroyo also moonlights as a recording artist. At the 2005 All-Star break, he released "Covering the Bases," a CD containing cover versions of his favorite rock songs. Arroyo did the vocals, and session musicians (including Mike Inez, former bassist of Alice in Chains) played the instruments. Arroyo does in fact play guitar, and usually did so when in the Red Sox clubhouse before games.
On Baseball Think Factory, Arroyo is sometimes nicknamed "Brandon Arroyo," after sharp-eared Primates noticed yet another Tim McCarver gaffe during a 2004 postseason FOX broadcast.
