Doug Pappas
From Wiki Gonzalez
Doug Pappas was considered the foremost expert on the business of baseball. He wrote prolifically about baseball economics in his weblog, on Usenet, and in Baseball Prospectus, analyzing and debunking what he perceived as false information spread by MLB and sympathetic media outlets. Doug was also the chairman of SABR's Business of Baseball committee and served as the organization's parliamentarian. Doug started the SABR committee and contributed the business portions of Total Baseball.
Doug was a lifelong New York Mets fan, and posted on asb.nym for many years prior to the generation of BTF.
In addition to his baseball fandom, he was a lawyer and a photography enthusiast. His unexpected and untimely death came on a photographic excursion to Big Bend National Park in May 2004, where he was overcome by heat prostration.
Primates generally agreed with Pappas's conclusions, and have expressed gratitude in his memory for helping them to understand the economics of baseball. He will be missed.
