Ed Wade

From Wiki Gonzalez

Ed Wade is the general manager of the Houston Astros, and the former GM of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Wade was promoted to the Phillies position in 1998, having been the top assistant to fired GM Lee Thomas, and was fired after the 2005 season for failing to get the team into the playoffs. In 2007, he joined the floundering Astros after disappointed owner Drayton McLane fired GM Tim Purpura in mid-season.

The running joke on Baseball Think Factory about Wade is that his only plan for improving a team is to acquire veteran middle relievers at huge expense, letting the team's remaining problems go unsolved. It is safe to say that although Ed Wade's Middle Relievers was not enamored with Wade, Ed Wade's middle relievers had millions of reasons to like the guy, as did Doug Glanville.

Wade's top priority in Houston was to rebuild the organization's talent base. He did so by trading closer Brad Lidge to the Phils for middle relievers and a Glanville-like outfielder (Michael Bourne), and rumors at that year's winter meetings listed Wade as interested in several other middle relievers. He filled a hole at second base by signing veteran free agent KazMat (another BBTF whipping boy). It is likely that the ridiculing of Wade will continue in 2008.

Other enemies of Ed Wade on BBTF include Larry Bowa.
