F, when given as a middle initial (usually to a ballplayer) stands for "Fucking". As in "Billy Beane traded WHAT for John Fucking Mabry?!??!?!!!!!111" and "Why does Dusty insist on playing Tom F. Goodwin every day?"

On BTF, we refer to John Freakin' Mabry, but we all understand the context.

Long before BTF adopted the joke, it existed in reference to Bucky Dent, the unlikely Yankee hero whose home run ended the Red Sox' 1978 season.

NOTE: The sad epilogue of the John F. Mabry for Jeremy Giambi trade, that the 29/30 of baseball fans who are not Phillies fans have conveniently forgotten, is that Oakland actually won that trade.

ANOTHER NOTE: How can you say so definitively that Oakland "won" that trade? Sure Giambi was more expensive and has defensive limitations, but he put up a 974 OPS in 200+ plate appearances for the Phillies.

YET ANOTHER NOTE: Just because Larry Bowa is an assclown doesn't mean Oakland won the trade.
