The Cleveland Indians are a Major League Baseball team that has played in the American League since 1901.

[edit] Profile

The Indians have existed for more than 100 years, and have won exactly two World Championships. This is not as a result of some sort of curse, but instead has been caused by a long line of buffoons running the team into the ground.

Current General Manager Mark Shapiro is not a buffoon, and apart from a bizarre fascination with bad veteran free-agent pitchers such as Mark Wohlers, Jason Bere, and Jeff D'Amico, has built the foundation of a team that is likely to be a postseason contender for a number of years. In the opinion of this author (who is not an Indians fan), if you are in your formative period, looking for a team to root for (whether you are just getting into baseball, or are a disenfranchised Montreal Expos fan), the Indians are a great choice.

Indians fans would rather you not mention the Giles-for-Rincon trade, the Jeff Kent, Julian Tavarez, and Jose Vizcaino-for-Matt Williams trade, Game Seven of the 1997 World Series, the lack of a double switch in Game Six of the '95 Series, or the fact that Bob Feller has become a crazy old coot.
