Longest thread ever
From Wiki Gonzalez
Q. What is the longest thread ever on BTF?
A. There are multiple answers.
The current longest general-interest thread is the "Fred Schwarz on Baseball & Conservatives on National Review Online" thread; it is currently at a whopping 5850 posts. It morphed into a commentary on the 2008 Democratic Primaries and the 2008 politcal landscape as a whole; it was very long-running, as it was posted on April 11, and was still going on in late May.
The longest general-interest thread ever was the American Red Cross thread of August-September 2005, centering on the events of Hurricane Katrina.
The longest thread ever centered on a single topic was the Baseball Think Factory NCAA Tournament Pick 'em Pool thread of March, 2005. Although it started as a pool thread on that year's NCAA men's basketball tournament, it evolved into a long-running discussion of the exciting games played in that tournament. As of April 5, the thread contained 4076 comments.
Before those two, the longest thread ever centered on a single topic was the Election 2004 Primer Lounge. It contains over 3000 comments.
The longest general-discussion Lounge thread is the Bosslady Lounge from late January 2005. It is notable for the fact that, outside of SJ's schtupping his boss, nothing notable happened.
The notorious PETCO thread was once considered the longest general-interest thread and was the longest prior to the changeover. According to one theory it is much easier to have a longer thread because loading the page for an ultra-length thread isn't the royal pain it used to be. An alternate view is that the length of the Petco thread was greatly padded by features which the changeover wiped out: people posting bump posts just because they couldn't see the last post, and fake "humorous" posts are the two most obvious examples of this.
